How to Create a Course  Multiple Quizzes on a Computer

When designing e-learning courses, many trainers include quizzes to test an individual's learning successes and outstanding needs. Learning in this way ensures students work at their own pace. E-learning can maximize a student's learning experience, while reducing training costs.

    Many software programs available for designing an e-learning package. Learning Content Development System (LCDS) from Microsoft is well supported with documentation. Visit the website (See References) to register as a user. You'll be asked for your name, address, email and other general information.

    After verifying your email address with Microsoft, download and install your free copy of LCDS.

    Upon opening LCDS, click the 'New' icon in the top left corner and enter a name for your course. If you would like to change this at any time, simply click on the title showing in the "course structure" column and you'll be able to amend it in the 'templates' column.

    The left hand side of the LCDS screen displays the icons necessary to create the structure for your course. The top button allows you to add modules to your course. The second creates lessons and the third lets you add topics. A standard e-learning course on LCDS is one lesson comprising two topics and a self-test. You can adjust this to suit the needs of your subject and your students.

    Click on the word "module" in the first column. This allows you to create the module page. In the second column, "templates," you can amend the name of the module and have a choice of templates. The "read" icon, found fourth from the top, has a few template options which may suit your needs.

    At any point in the module--including lessons and the self-test--you can add in quizzes to test your students' learning. To add a quiz in click on the "read" icon again. Quiz choices include true/false, multiple choice and essay questions. Up to 10 questions can be given in any one quiz.

    E-learning courses can quiz learning in more interactive ways. Two games templates --are offered by LCDS. To access the sorting and tiling games, click on the icon which resembles a "tic tac do" board (third icon from the top).

    The interact icon, found at the top, offers a number of engaging templates for use in your e-learning course. An adventure activity allows your students to navigate their way through a decision process to reveal outcomes. The drag and drop option lets students sort information to test their understanding of the subject matter.

    Once you're done creating, click on the "create" button. This is the fifth button from the left and found at the top of the screen.

    A "create" dialog box will appear. To ensure your search function will work for your students, click on index In the toolbar and then click "create." When the "create index dialog box appears click "start."

    You now need necessary to "zip" up your course folder. Locate the file using "my computer." Right mouse click and choose the "compress" option.

    Click on "create" to bring up the create dialog box. Click on the choice media map (CSV) and click "publish." A "save as" box will appear. This allows you to save a map of your course in a place other than the course folder itself.
